Home and Destination Charging (0 -> 100%)

Charging is possible by using a regular wall plug or a charging station. Public charging is always done through a charging station. How fast the EV can charge depends on the charging station (EVSE) used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The table below shows all possible options for charging the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio. Each option shows how fast the battery can be charged from empty to full.

All about the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio

No longer available

This electric vehicle is no longer in production and not available to buy new. The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio was available from April 2018 until September 2019. Financial data like price, leasing and company car tax were applicable to the final year of availability of the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio.

A new model of the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio (2018) is available: Smart EQ fortwo cabrio (2020).

Pricing

The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio had a Recommend Retail Price (RRP) of £22,980 and an On The Road Price (OTR) of £23,335. The OTR Price includes VAT, first year of VED, vehicle first registration fee, number plates and delivery. The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio was eligible for a Plug-In Car Grant (PICG) of £3,500. The OTR Price including the PICG for the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio is £19,835.

Drivetrain and Performance

The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio is a full electric vehicle (BEV). The maximum power of the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio is 60 kW (80 hp). The maximum torque is 118 lb-ft. The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio is rear wheel drive and can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 11.8 seconds. The top speed is 81 mph.

Battery and Charging

The battery of the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio has a total capacity of 17.6 kWh. The usable capacity is 16.7 kWh (estimate). A range of about 55 miles is achievable on a fully charged battery. The actual range will however depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style.

For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in a range of around 40 mi. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the range to around 90 mi.

Charging is done using a Type 2 connector and the on-board charger has a maximum power of 7.4 kW. This charges a fully depleted battery back to full in around 2 hours 45 minutes. An optional on-board charger with a maximum power of 22.0 kW is available. This charges a fully depleted battery back to full in around 55 minutes. Charging the car using a regular wall plug will take around 8 hours 45 minutes.

Rapid charging is not possible.

Energy Consumption

The combined (motorway and city) energy consumption of the Smart EQ fortwo cabrio is about 304 Wh per mile. By comparison, this energy consumption is the equivalent of a fuel consumption of 133 mpg in a traditional petrol car.

The actual energy consumption will depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style. For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in an energy use of around 418 Wh per mile. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the efficiency to about 186 Wh per mile.

CO2 Emission

The Smart EQ fortwo cabrio emits no CO2 during driving. This only includes direct emissions from the vehicle itself. The energy needed to charge the battery might have been (partly) generated by the use of fossil fuels. Vehicles with an internal combustion engine will always emit CO2 during driving. Additionally, CO2 is emitted during the production and transport of fossil fuels.
