The ZS EV will be the first all-electric vehicle by MG in the UK. It's launch is currently planned for the autumn of 2019 with first deliveries probably starting by the end of the year. The vehicle has been seen testing around Europe, but as of yet only the UK launch has been confirmed.

Home and Destination Charging (0 -> 100%)

Rapid Charging (10 -> 80%)

Rapid charging enables longer journeys by adding as much range as possible in the shortest amount of time. Charging power will decrease significantly after 80% state-of-charge has been reached. All about the MG ZS EV

Pricing

The MG ZS EV has an estimatedn On The Road Price (OTR) of £28,500. The OTR Price includes VAT, first year of VED, vehicle first registration fee, number plates and delivery. The MG ZS EV is eligible for the Plug-In Car Grant (PICG) of £3,500. The grant will be applied to the final invoice price of the car. The OTR Price including the PICG for the MG ZS EV is £25,000.

Drivetrain and Performance

The MG ZS EV is a full electric vehicle (BEV). The estimated maximum power of the MG ZS EV is 110 kW (148 hp). The estimated maximum torque is 258 lb-ft. The MG ZS EV is front wheel drive and can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in an estimated 9.0 seconds. The estimated top speed is 93 mph.

Battery and Charging

The battery of the MG ZS EV has an estimated total capacity of 44.5 kWh. The usable capacity is 44.5 kWh (estimate). An estimated range of about 155 miles is achievable on a fully charged battery. The actual range will however depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style.

For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in a range of around 110 mi. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the range to around 235 mi.

Charging is done using a Type 2 connector and the on-board charger has a maximum power of 7.4 kW. This charges a fully depleted battery back to full in around 7 hours 15 minutes. Charging the car using a regular wall plug will take around 22 hours 45 minutes.

Rapid charging is possible through a CCS connection (expected). The maximum rapid charge power is 70 kW. The battery can't be charged continuously at this power. In an average rapid charge session the average charge power will be around 50 kW. This charges the battery from 10% to 80% in around 40 minutes. A rapid charge like this will add about 105 miles of range.

Energy Consumption

The estimated combined (motorway and city) energy consumption of the MG ZS EV is about 285 Wh per mile. By comparison, this energy consumption is the equivalent of a fuel consumption of 141 mpg in a traditional petrol car.

The actual energy consumption will depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style. For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in an energy use of around 400 Wh per mile. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the efficiency to about 185 Wh per mile.

CO2 Emission

The MG ZS EV emits no CO2 during driving. This only includes direct emissions from the vehicle itself. The energy needed to charge the battery might have been (partly) generated by the use of fossil fuels. Vehicles with an internal combustion engine will always emit CO2 during driving. Additionally, CO2 is emitted during the production and transport of fossil fuels.
